CENDOL
Cendol (or Chendol) is a rich Peranakan dessert with Javanese influence comprising red beans and green "worms" (green coloured rice flour paste shaped into little worms and cooked to a springy texture) served in coconut milk and gula melaka (palm sugar) and topped by shaved ice. Some places also add diced Chin Chow and sweet corn. Sinful and delicious, the flavours of this dessert will manifest with each spoonful in your mouth.
The deliciously creamy and refreshing Cendol is quintessential to Southeast Asian Cuisine , a traditional dessert that was once sold from the pushcarts .The basic ingredients of Cendol include coconut milk, green starched noodles with artificial pandan flavouring and palm sugar. Singaporeans are known for personalizing their eating experience, and with Cendol, it’s no exception. Expect additional topping options such as grated ice, red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly and creamed corn; making this yummy dessert just perfect for the sunny weather in Singapore. The more adventurous among you can try durian-flavoured cendol, which is (acquired taste aside) quite delicious.
